Like it or not, her day probably has come.

WAM commented on Speed-enforcement cameras: An idea whose time in New York has yet to come, somehow

"Cowboy" drivers are certainly a problem, but I think almost everyone commonly drives somewhat over the speed limit, which is usually too low anyway. Unless speed limits are raised, or cameras are set up only to catch people driving substantially over the speed limit, I would be opposed to them. I also think red light cameras should be set up only to catch cases of blatant disregard, not people who may be a little careless about orange lights and thus have gotten caught in the intercession when the light has just turned red. Also it is possible to get caught this way because you could not make a left turn sooner because of opposing traffic..

WAM commented on Pat Kiernan calms us down about the NY1 name change

Glad you got that response. I feel a little calmed down, but who knows? ....... "Morning Joe" seems to me to be deteriorating, as Joe talks on and on and Mika becomes more of a stick in the mud, so I have been watching Channel 1 more.

WAM commented on Dolan at the conclave, and the triumph of 'Americanism'

Thanks for an interesting perspective, and hooray for Americanism finally getting its due in the RC church. At this point in time, some people may be shocked that such a thing was ever condemned as an error....And yet I think the attitude that goes with opposition to Americanism is not really dead. To take one example, the church hierarchy seems to gloss over a due distinction between pronouncing physical gay relationships moral and legalizing gay marriage. (And the attitude behind opposition to Americanism seems to be very much alive in Islam.) ...In the end I think there are issues connected with the whole thing that are alive and well, and not always black and white. To what extent do we live with, tolerate, accept, try to understand, compromise with, people with whom we disagree about political and social policies?

WAM commented on Huntsman goes to Chinatown

I fervently agree the GOP needs a remake, and Huntsman is appealing in some ways. That he didnt get far last time could maybe be attributed to extremism on the part of the Republican base. But somehow he lacks drawing power and the common touch; to me, he comes off too much as just a scold. I don't think he is the man for the job.

WAM commented on Obama responds to Bloomberg

Obama is backtracking but of course he doesn't acknowledge it and advertises himself as above it all. I'd say both sides have accepted the sequestration, for their own purposes.

Glad to see he had the courage to vote his conscience and take a risk. Not all that common!

WAM commented on Former 'Daily News' editor Kevin Convey goes back to school

Interesting story, especially in these recessionary times when a lot of people are (or should be?) thinking about reshaping their careers, perhaps in unconventional ways.
