smile commented on Major media outlets say they won't pull out of Baghdad when Obama does
This is wrong. Mr. Wurzelbacher never had a plumbing business, was not a licensed plumber, and had no means by which to acquire briquetting machinerya plumbing business.Posted on November 8th, 2011 2:20am

In this moment, it's possible to believe David Carr is becoming more famous as a spokesman for the Times than he deserves to be, even as he has always deserved more widespread fame and fortune for his writing and reporting on media and for his memoir, which set an almost impossibly high bar for future memoirists.charcoal briquette makingPosted on November 8th, 2011 2:19am
smile commented on What does Major League Soccer have to do to get New York's attention?
Fracking has caused devastating water contamination across the US. There is also the issue of the toxic wastewater and how it will be disposed of. NYC's old water supply tunnels also may not be able to handle the extremely high pressure used in the fracking process. It is extremely disappointing to hear Mayor Bloomberg publically discuss such a serious issue of fracking without all of the factssunflower seeds peeling machinery. We cannot exist without water - once it is contaminated, there is no going back. There have been no long term public health studies on the effects of fracking. We cannot rush ahead and put our precious drinking water and health at risk for corporate profits. The film "Gasland" should be required viewing for all Americans to see what gas drilling and fracking can do to our water supply. Contamination from fracking is a disaster that can be prevented. There are alternatives to gas, but there are no alternatives to water.Posted on November 8th, 2011 2:18am
smile commented on Survey: Many Occupy Wall Street protesters are unhappy Democrats who want more influence
They sweep the poor out of town and leave them to fend for themselves in a fetid ghetto like Mott Haven, comfortably out of sight from the corner of 57th and Fifth. Then, every once in a long while, some Dartmouth kid will have the bright idea to venture into the outer boroughs on a de facto safari (Oooh, scary!) to get a glimpse of what his people have wrought for the unwashed masses who never had private SAT tutors. And of course, the liberal takeaway is all about how terrible it is. But will they do a fucking thing to change it? Of course not, because, in the end, the bleeding-heart NYC liberals are cut from the same lace cloth as the let-them-eat-cake conservatives. Changing the system is all well and good, but let's not go too nuts. Daddy has to keep his job at Morgan Stanley, charcoal briquette makingafter all.Posted on November 8th, 2011 2:17am

This was a great article to read especially from the other side, chinese workers, and the narrative was great, but I couldn't help sense a snobby tone like you are the only reporter to ever venture into these parts, minus the occasional crime story. You will find community papers such as the Mott Haven Herald and The Hunts Point Express do cover these "hoods"sawdust shavingsPosted on November 8th, 2011 2:17am

This is exactly how America was designed. Ordinary citizens are supposed to become representatives for short periods of time. They then return to their job and someone else takes over as a representative. Career politicians are destructive to America. I wish Joe well!briquetting machineryPosted on November 8th, 2011 2:16am

How about getting a team that plays in NY for starters. I am an avid soccer fan- I have been to several World Cups including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. I was born and raised in Queens NY- I have played soccer in NY for the Cosmopolitan Soccer League (founded in 1923) for approx 15yrs. The problem with the NY Red Bulls is that they DO NOT play in NY- They play in NEW JERSEY-I have been to the Red Bull Arena- the commute is 2 & 1/2 hours ONE WAY!!! If you believe the Seatle Sounders would be drawing 36,000 fans in they played in their neighboring state "Idaho" as opposed to downtown Seatle there is a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell youpeanut shellersPosted on November 8th, 2011 2:14am

Way to go Rachel! It's great to see that organizations and administrations are taking the realm of social media/web 2.0 seriously and that there is room for a youthful perspective in a sometimes old-school world of thinking. I recently was hired as an Online Initiatives Manager and I love that it is constantly evolving. Best of luck.Flour Mill ProjectPosted on November 7th, 2011 10:13pm

Really good work, loved the in-depth analysis. Talking about David Carr, I still remember his 2008 memoir, The Night of the Gun, where he detailed his past experiences with cocaine addiction and included interviews with people from his past, tackling his memoir as if he were reporting on himself. The story then was excerpted in the The New York Times Magazine and his book became a best seller. Huge fan of him! Jeremy,Flour Mill ProjectPosted on November 7th, 2011 10:12pm
