Sharon commented on Why Hollywood makes Creepy Kid movies, and why America can't look away

Adoptees HATE that movie "Orphans" because of that little PSA announcement - the reason why this movie is so effective in scaring people is that it is effective in touching upon a basic understanding of adoption: you really DONT know what youre going to get...and it also ties into what a lot of adoptees go through vis a vis Reactive Attachment Disorder (and the more severe manifestations of it). I dont think its a scary movie so much because its a CHILD thats involved, its scary because it hits upon a more primal notion about bringing a stranger into the family fold and pretending they are something they are not. Oh, and also, adoptees hate that movie because the title alone caters to the idea that if the child is adopted, it follows that their parents are no longer living - which in itself is seldom true. Find it interesting that no one has ever done a scary movie from the perspective of an adoptee: how frightening it is to be THE ONLY one amid people with whom you have NO connection with and the horrible things that are done in abusive situations, but the only outlet allowed is gratitude.
