Norman Oder commented on Bloomberg pitches the city and Ratner's Nets, reacts un-positively to the Cuomo tax plan

Um, it could take 25 years to bring us the "close to a quarter of a million square feet of new retail space" at Atlantic Yards that Bloomberg touted. Phase 1--the arena and 5 towers--is supposed to bring 91,000 square feet. They have 12 years to build Phase 1 without penalities. Norman Oder commented on A Capital anticipation list: 'Battle for Brooklyn,' The Saurus, Cruddy, Midnight Magic, Thanksgiving dessert

Issue fatigue: it probably sounds like nitpicking, but it's misleading (and furthers the developer's narrative) to cite "the development of the Atlantic Yards into an arena for the Nets and 16 skyscrapers." There was never a dispute about such a process because "the Atlantic Yards" didn't exist when it was announced. The name Atlantic Yards is the developer's branding for a very diverse 22-acre site, including an 8.5-acre railyard (often seen as a proxy for the site). And parts of the site are not yet controlled by the developer or the state. Norman Oder commented on How former liberal operative Josh Isay became the default paid-media guy to the New York establishment

Let's not forget the firm's role in producing misleading brochures to sell Forest City Ratner's Atlantic Yards project. The press fell down on that, too. http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com/2011/02/profile-of-guy-whose-firm-produced.html http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com/2006/05/covering-ratners-brochure-why-not.html

Norman Oder commented on On missing a chance to shape New York

For the record, the "woman from the Regional Plan Association" was Hope Cohen, who's a member of the Charter Revision Commission. http://www.nyc.gov/html/charter/html/commissioners/commissioners.shtml#cohen So the response ""If I was asked to have been a member of the commission—which I certainly wouldn’t have been, I’ve had a few tangles with the mayor..." came from Lane, not his questioner.

Norman Oder commented on At City Hall, a Brooklyn waterfront project inches across the finish line

OK, I read a lot of flavor about how City Council goes about--or not--its business. But I learned a lot more from Ward Dennis of CB1 here: http://www.brooklyn11211.com/archive/2010/06/domino-approved.html
