Mark-n-LA commented on Betrayed by the Zeitgeist she once channeled, Tina Brown invokes it one last time
The Zeitgeist Ms Brown might have wanted to think about for just a moment is that one in the microcosm of the news editing department. The line from Network captures a facet of it, but I go a little further: the people who muscle their way into editorial positions at places like Newsweek and Time are morally vacuous and petty tyrants. A friend of mine worked the Newsweek International department briefly 50 years ago, and got fired along with the rest of the staff when the editor decided it was time to show how big his britches were. My friend also worked in the NYT for a stint, and has pointed me to the books "The Kingdom and the Power" and "The Powers that Be" to describe the personalities of these organizations. These media operations are cheap soap operas, and it is only by the laziness of the readers that these monstrosities have survived as long as they have. Their absolute blind conformance to the current political narrative and their refusal to report any conflicting information makes them morally and informationally equal to the propaganda ministries of Stalin, Hitler and Mao Tse Tung, and sooner or later they are all going to fall.Posted on December 23rd, 2012 9:30pm
