Bloomberg grants the Rockaways ferry a reprieve, linked to a ridership test

The resurrection of A train service to the Rockaways, which happened ahead of schedule last weekend, was supposed to portend the death of the ferry to the Rockaways, a stopgap measure instituted after the hurricane knocked out train service to the barrier peninsula.

 

But following community resistance, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Tuesday that the ferry to the Rockaways would continue operating for at least another six weeks, and perhaps through Labor Day. More
