cybergrace commented on Charles Barron, the most anti-charter-school candidate in the Towns race, launches 'Parents for Barron'

The U.S. has spent 23 Billion dollars on wars in Iraq, Afghanistan & Libya that had NOTHING to do with making those countries safe for their citizens, only safe for U.S. corporations to come in and steal their oil and other resources. Our children deserve quality public schools in our own neighborhoods, not charter schools a long subway ride away. We deserve for our tax dollars to be spent on our own neighborhoods and civilian-oriented education and housing, not for corporate military profiteers. Jeffries gets a lot of donations from hedge fund managers, charter school employees and real-estate lawyers, that shows you who will profit from his campaign. Barron will bring our tax dollars home, not give them to Board of Education consultants, hedge fund investors in charter schools, real estate lawyers dismantling rent stabilization and gentrifying us out of the neighborhood and begging Ratner to use some of his tax breaks to build a teensy bit of affordable housing, pretty please.

Yes, the establishment machine is behind Hakeem Jeffries. Another reason I'm voting for Charles Barron! Vote to shake up the powers-that-be, vote Barron! ;-)

cybergrace commented on Ray Kelly: 'What do leaders of the communities of color say ... to get guns off the street?'

Hmmm, Kelly sure isn't listening to any real Black leaders, just the ones HE has "annointed" as leaders, that's why he's so cluless. He also does not like Black people and genuinely happy to participate in the modern day slave trade that is the prison-industrial complex... but that's another story. There are lots of ways to combat crime and that would save money. Stop wasting taxpayer money assembling huge crowds of cops at peaceful demonstrations. That much testosterone and white supremacy in one place leads to mass violence against civilians; arresting peaceful protestors; class action lawsuits and wasteful emergency room visits. Why waste so much money with set-up operations such as leaving handbags with globs of money on isolated park benches in neighborhoods of color; undercover cops asleep on subway cars with wallets hanging out their pocket and spending six-figure amounts trying to convince unemployed black youth, uh I mean terrorists, to bomb a building? The NYPD is targeting unemployed black and Latino you to commit arrestable offenses that would never be real crimes in real life. Instead, and for MUCH cheaper, pursue crimes that are causing the root problems in this city. Send undercover decoys to jobs with identical resumes and qualities and sue them and mandate anti-racist education for them--and shut down employers who repeatedly discriminate against the majority of citizens of our city (Black, Latino and Asian). If people had anywhere near a fair shot at getting a job this city would be a lot more livable and happy. End half the rape cases overnight by sending undercover agents to frat parties at the largest fraternity houses at colleges in the city. Confistigate the frat houses and their resources for repeat offenders. This would make lots of money, make most women in NYC very happy, prevent a lot of vomit in public places and stop a lot of crime. Stop "stop and frisk," we want unemployed, discriminated against angry youth with small amounts in their pockets to smoke pot. Pot smokers don't get in bar fights or beat up their girlfriends and children, drinkers do. Want to fight real drugs? Again, wealthy colleges and expensive nightclubs are ridiculously easy targets, relatively safe to bust, and have lots of resources to sue and take away. Require residency laws for NYPD and don't allow new hires to claim Staten Island as "living in NYC."

cybergrace commented on The congressional challenger from New York real estate

At first I thought this article was going to be about Hakeem Jeffries. Protege of Vito Lopez, advocate of talking with Ratner instead of opposing him, and darling of big campaign bucks from the Democratic machine and the real estate agents and lawyers who love them. Hmm, I'll research his campaign donations and see if I can find what his real estate contributions are...

cybergrace commented on Charles Barron on fracking, natural gas, and 'the mayor and the governor’s business cronies'

More please! What is the update about specific anti-fracking legislation? What politicians in what committees need to be pressured to "make it happen"? What is Hakeem Jeffries stance? Any website where we can put in our address and automatically write letters to our area politicians? Thanks for covering this extremely important issue, Capital.

cybergrace commented on Hakeem Jeffries musters a Bookeresque coalition for Congress: Reformers, machine and all

This article says it all about Jeffries. He is mentored by Vito Lopez, one of the most corrupt politicians to ever rip off Brooklyn. Jeffries isn't going to change a thing. Vito Lopez has made a living giving grants to a nonprofit senior center which he uses as his own personal piggy bank--and threatens the seniors there to work on his campaigns! Vito Lopez's campaign treasurer, Chris Fisher, who earned at least $686,047 last year as executive director of the senior center(!), and his girlfriend, housing director Angela Battaglia, who earned $343,136, have not been punished by the city! This is a senior center serving very poor seniors with most staff earning quite modest salaries. The completely incompetent girlfriend actually STOPS work from happening! If she was fired, as she should be, the agency would profit not only her outrageous, nepotistic salary, but hundreds of thousands of dollars in staff morale improvement and workplace performance. Jeffries did and does not oppose the outrageous City giving of millions of dollars of tax write offs and perks to the private reality company project pushing the Atlantic Yards project. How in the world can NYC not MAKE money by developing all this property? In this time of service slashing how can anyone not oppose the giving of Ratner so much of our tax money? It is totally unfair that you paint Jeffries as a figure of change because he is younger than the other candidates, but do not talk about how his record compares to the other candidates. It is especially unfair that you only mention Vito Lopez in a positive manner, and do not mention his misuse of the vulnerable seniors at his center to do his election staffing. Change would be to boot Vito Lopez out of Brooklyn forever; sever his (and his girlfriend's) authority over the Bushwick Senior Center; put competent, experienced professional nonprofit managers with regular salaries in charge there-- and don't elect anyone who considers him a mentor!

cybergrace commented on Charles Barron on not being a 'punk,' or a mere congressional spoiler

This article is a little pathetic. Half of America is hurting financially, the top 1% own 40% of the wealth, unemployment is terrible and getting worse, food pantries have bare shelves and the schools in New York are extremely underfunded and unable to prepare our young people. And this article is what you got out of Charles Barron's press conference?! C'mon now, black and white, we all desperately need CHANGE. We WANT a congressman who is angry. If that's radical, so what? We need radical! - Another underemployed New Yorker [white] looking for CHANGE
