Richard Turk, co-owner of Colony Records, on the Brill Building music institution and hard times in the business

Turk, who took over as co-owner in 1986, said Colony survived as long as it did in part because they focused on the “human element.” “We hired people well-versed in various types of music, who could really speak the language,” he said. “People come in here who don’t even speak English, but somehow we’re able to communicate on the wavelength of music.” “On the Internet,” he added, referring to the shop’s website, “there’s no smell and no information beyond what we choose to tell you.” More

New Museum launches new website with vast archive

Tara Hart, the New Museum’s digital archivist, testified to the exhaustive nature of the project. “Since we’re not a collecting museum, there was no physical archive in place,” she said. The report says security cameras from the casino showed a woman in a purple dress approach Maria Grisanti in a threatening manner. An altercation appears to take place and Maria Grisanti falls to the floor and the female party in the purple dress is on top of her." More

At Santos Party House, things get serious as Al Jazeera pitches New Yorkers

”It’s a pretty hard-hitting topic for Santos Party House, we know,” Al Jazeera English spokesperson Sophia Qureshi told the crowd. The screening of an episode of “Fault Lines,” an Al Jazeera English show about the global impact of U.S. foreign policy, was part of an attempt to spread the word about the network’s English-language shows. It was also to galvanize New Yorkers to pressure cable providers to add Al Jazeera English to their portfolios. More

Yahoo suits tout new reporting focus, but what about the old one?

It might have been an editorial decision on the part of the Times that the existing structures for journalism inside Yahoo weren't significant enough to mention (although the piece did herald the original reporting of Yahoo Sports, which recently landed a bombshell exclusive about corruption in the University of Miami's football program), which in my view is an error. The Times, after all, devoted a feature to The Upshot last July. More
