Former 'Daily News' editor Kevin Convey goes back to school

Convey, who is studying in CUNY's entrepreneurial journalism concentration, says he's learning new things about the business-side and technological aspects of media—what it takes to run a startup; how data visualization works; editing video with Final Cut Pro. He was, however exempted from the fundamental writing and reporting courses, which isn't to say his schooling lacks a certain journeyman element; in a features-writing class this semester, he's been brushing up on his Lillian Ross and Gay Talese as well as workshopping a profile of Daily News columnist Denis Hamill. Kevin Convey, ousted 'News' editor, in newsroom farewell; he was 'blindsided,' even though his successor was picked in October

"I'm sure he was worried about his job, but he probably thought the threat came from Arthur Browne," said a person who knows Convey.

The rollout of Convey's dismissal didn't begin until the end of December, even though the paper had been in talks with Myler since the fall, said a person familiar with the situation. The Myler negotiations were kept tightly under wraps, and even top newsroom brass wouldn't have been aware of them until at least the first of the year. Convey is, according to sources, on a contract that expires this summer. More

Boston Screamer: News nabs Convey to pummel Post

Kevin Convey's office at the Boston Herald isn't far from downtown Boston, but its windows look southeast, across a freeway, toward Southie, the longstanding Irish and white ethnic Boston enclave that, in the past two decades, has rapidly gentrified.
