This morning, around the same time that Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a press conference in Harlem announcing the latest in his tech-campus initiatives, two black elected officials from Brooklyn held a separate press conference at the scene of a recent shooting, asking the mayor and governor for an emergency allocation of $50 million for anti-violence groups in violent neighborhoods. “The sounds are what you dress the song up in, in a way,” he said. “I love karaoke versions of songs. Those are all midi files and you can change the instruments to whatever you want. You can also version songs in different genres. You can do country versions and salsa versions or whatever. It’s nice that you can choose to dress it up in whatever way makes sense. New York's tallest apartment building, inside and out (and in between)

The building is made of 280 million pounds of concrete, and supported using a now-familiar "core-and-outrigger" method. The building's core makes up the main structural support, but at each level of the building arms reach out from the core and "grab" pillars near the perimeter of each floorplate.

But there is an important variation in the core-and-outrigger construction method involved here, because the shapes of the floorplates are so jagged, and so different from each other, that there is no straight line near enough the perimeter of the building that can rise consistently for the building's entire height.
