Colin Myler
Colin Myler's 'Daily News' is working on a new national site, 'Daily News America'
A national news site would capitalize on the types of click-friendly national stories, picture galleries and celebrity news that have become standard fare on nydailynews.com over the past year or so, and could help the News maintain or expand the already comfortable gulf between its monthly traffic totals and those of archnemesis the New York Post. Whenever there's talk here about whether our press culture is a civilizing or brutalizing force in the culture, I just close my eyes and think of England. More

"I am thrilled that a journalist of Ted’s outstanding ability is joining us to guide our expansion plans for our online operation, both locally and nationally," Myler said in a note to staff Wednesday afternoon. "I know he is looking forward to working with the great team of journalists who have done so much to establish such a successful site." More

News Corp: "News Corporation regrets, however, that the Select Committee's analysis of the factual record was followed by some commentary that we, and indeed several members of the committee, consider unjustified and highly partisan." More
The tabloid war and the complex, long relationship between 'News' editor Colin Myler and 'Post' editor Col Allan
"How to explain this softer, kinder, kid-glove treatment of a tabloid that every day competes for the same circulation and, even more significantly, the same advertisers?," asked former News editor Martin Dunn. "How to rationalize that decision in an environment where both newspapers struggle for revenue and readers?" More
At the 'Daily News,' two court reporters are let go
If their exit is a sign of a larger realignment at the paper under its new editor, Colin Myler, who replaced outgoing editor Kevin Convey at the beginning of the year, then it is a very slow-moving realignment. More

(1)'Daily News' scored P.R. victory with papers on the field as Giants celebrated, but were those papers 'real'?
It was an away game that ended around 10:30 p.m. New York time, but somehow, just as the team started celebrating on the field, someone from the News was on hand with copies of Monday's paper, the cover of which celebrated the Giants' win.
The photographer snapped at least four shots of elated Giants players posing with the paper, and it was a huge coup to have Hakeem Nicks holding it up on live television in front of tens of millions of viewers. More

Kevin Convey, ousted 'News' editor, in newsroom farewell; he was 'blindsided,' even though his successor was picked in October
"I'm sure he was worried about his job, but he probably thought the threat came from Arthur Browne," said a person who knows Convey.
The rollout of Convey's dismissal didn't begin until the end of December, even though the paper had been in talks with Myler since the fall, said a person familiar with the situation. The Myler negotiations were kept tightly under wraps, and even top newsroom brass wouldn't have been aware of them until at least the first of the year. Convey is, according to sources, on a contract that expires this summer. More

After a year and a half, the Daily News has a new editor-in-chief. It's Colin Myler, according to an email I've obtained, which also includes a quote from the paper's publisher, Mort Zuckerman, praising the outgoing editor-in-chief, Kevin Convey.
Colin Myler has been appointed editor-in-chief of The New York Daily News and NYDailyNews.com. The Daily News is New York’s largest-circulation daily newspaper and NYDailyNews.com is the 12th largest news site in the U.S. according to Comscore. More(5)
