Arthur Browne's the tortured heart and soul of the 'Daily News'; will he ever be its head?

On the day of the raid on Zuccotti Park, one man was in charge of both the news sections of the paper and the editorial pages: Arthur Browne.

His institutional memory stretches back nearly four decades, a long time for someone so prominently at the top of the News masthead, including the tabloid's current proprietor, real-estate and media magnate and frequent news-roundtable guest Mortimer Zuckerman.

And now, not for the first time in more than a decade, there are murmurs that he is poised to succeed Kevin Convey as its editor in chief. More
