Wednesday night, Clark played a benefit gig (sponsored in part by Rolling Stone), in the Openhouse Gallery in Soho for Music Unites, a non-profit that pushes for music education in the underserved public schools in New York and elsewhere; proceeds were going specifically to the organization’s youth choir, which serves New York teens. Donations were requested but not required. The crowd wasn’t black-tie stuffy, per se, just for the most part rather moneyed and looking the part--lots of open collars and business casual and fun-night-out dresses. The crowd seemed largely composed of New York music-biz bigwigs, as with one older man who swore he knew me: “You’re a drummer, right? In L.A.? No, wait, you’re . . .”
