Bill Keller
Bill Keller says 'Times' readers 'have not forgotten that we blew it on Iraq,' and that's one reason Iran is different
"We can't entirely leech the New York-ness out of The New York Times," said Keller. "If we somehow achieved absolute objectivity, it would be kind of tedious to read. ... Watching The New York Times try to be even-handed on some issues is like trying to watch somebody dance their kids' dance styles. We look like we're trying too hard. Yes, we should be even-handed, we should certainly follow the basic rule of reporting, challenging your assumptions, and we should be ruthless about having a public editor or an editors' note to call ourselves out. ... But it is possible to be fair and still radiate a cultural persona." More

Some best-guesses about what BuzzFeed is up to, and why it is in fact about Arianna, a little
Frequently asked question:
Are you competing with The Huffington Post?
BuzzFeed answer:
No, our business models are different. They hope to gain as much traffic as possible from search; we are oriented toward social networks. Plus it'd be awkward. Ken Lerer and Jonah Peretti were both in the founding team of The Huffington Post.
My answer:
Yes. There is a competitive space opening up right now, and it's one The Huffington Post and a few of the other "big guys" are used to dominating. More

What was B. Keller doing up in the air with Andrew Cuomo?
Earlier today, governor Andrew Cuomo, who's been criticized in the press for a lack of transparency, released his schedule and other information about his office over the last six months.
Among the details buried in the raft of data was information about flights on the governor's plane, which would detail any use of the plane for personal or political purposes for which the state would require reimbursement. A certain "B. Keller" was listed among the passengers on at least two separate flights with the governor. More

The 'Times'' new editor spends an evening among the oxpeckers
A little after 6 p.m. on the evening of Sept. 15, Jill Abramson was mingling with reporters in a private room at the Houndstooth Pub at 37th Street and Eighth Avenue.
The reporters were of that breed—the media press—that lives to detail the goings on three blocks up at The New York Times building, where Abramson recently started in her role as top editor of the paper.

When Jill Abramson was the only grown-up in the Times building
Jill Abramson will be the new top editor of The New York Times, which will make her the first woman to run the editorial side of the world's greatest news organization. Whether or not that fact relates to the reasons that I believe she'll be the best one in a very long time I'll leave to others to analyze. More

Pushing on an open door: Bill Keller's unnecessary argument for the Times' pay model
Bill Keller's first two columns have irritated me, as a Times reader, by breaking two rules: They have sought to explain to me a paper I believed I knew pretty well already, and the explanations don't match my perception; and they sound discordant notes of apology and belligerence that make me feel embattled on behalf of this newly strange institution against a horde I never much cared to bother with before, and somewhat resent being bothered with now. I'd rather not be told what the Times is; I can read it for myself, and I plan to continue doing so every day, quite simply because I can't afford not to. More
