De Blasio campaign adds Obama-Spitzer aide Lis Smith
Lis Smith, a former member of Barack Obama's rapid-response team who led an uphill communications fight against most of New York's Democratic establishment when she worked on Eliot Sptizer's New York City comptroller campaign, has been hired by Bill de Blasio's mayoral campaign.
The hiring was announced by De Blasio's campaign manager, Bill Hyers, on Twitter—a platform he joined on Sept. 15, five days after the primary (which is remarkable, considering the heavy emphasis his campaign put on social media).
Smith and Hyers worked together when she was at the Democratic Governors Association and he ran a gubernatorial race in Kentucky. While in New York, their clients never really went directly at one another, making the post-primary hire an easy one.
