An anti-Catsimatidis mailer, with evidence TK
It's always worth reading the fine print, especially on an attack ad.
Today, voters started receiving a mailer from Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota, which attacks his main rival, John Catsimatidis, for his campaign contributions to Alan Hevesi, the former Democratic state comptroller who spent time in prison for a pension fund scandal.
But where the other allegations are documented, the line below the Hevesi charge says: "(Waiting for information supporting this…)."
That information isn't especially hard to find: Catsimatidis donated $8,000 to Hevesi between October 8, 2002 and June 5, 2006, according to state records.
The mailer appears to be a piece designed for the outer boroughs. On the front, it features an unflattering photo of Catsimatidis, and a quote proclaiming himself a "Manhattanite," saying he felt sorry for those who live elsewhere.
