Poll: Bike-share program leads to widespread IMBYism
What's the opposite of NIMBY?
Whatever you'd call it, it seems to be the prevailing attitude in New York toward the city's new bike-share program.
In a poll released today by Quinnipiac University, voters in general were shown to support the program. Also, though, more people approved of the prospect of the bike-share program opening in their neighborhood than approved of the program in general, suggesting some people's problem with it is that it doesn't include them.
Here is a chart showing the attitudes, broken down by borough and ethnicity, toward the program. The same pattern held among other cross-sections in the poll that I did not include in this chart (young, middle-aged and older voters, Democrats, Republicans and independents).
