An invitation to support Vito Lopez’s run for Council
Here's an invitation to an April 18 fund-raiser for Vito Lopez, the Brooklyn assemblyman who was stripped of his seniority and much of his staff after being accused of sexually harassing several former staffers.
Lopez, who has denied any wrong-doing, is now running for an open City Council seat in Bushwick, which he currently represents in the Assembly.
The invitation was passed along to me by a reader who received it today.
Lopez is running without the help of most of the city's political establishment, which previously courted his support as chairman of the Brooklyn Democratic organization.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said she would work "day and night" to keep Lopez off the Council, and Lopez's primary opponent in the Council race, Antonio Reynoso, has already been endorsed by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, the United Federation of Teachers, the Hotel and Motel Trades Council and others.
