Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who used to run a media company, shares the view of Yahoo C.E.O. Marissa Mayer on "telecommuting".
"I've always said, telecommuting is one of the dumber ideas I've ever heard," said the mayor during his regular Friday morning radio show. "Yes, there are some things you can do at home. But having a chat line is not the same thing as standing at the water cooler. And standing at the water cooler is where you get a lot of ideas and information and it's a euphemism for a lot of interpersonal dialogue."
Bloomberg is known to have strong views about how offices should be run.
When he arrived at City Hall, he replicated Bloomberg LP's open, bullpen-style format, one he believes is more conducive to a productive work environment.
