Wolfson's contextualizing response to the 2013 field, in context

2:46 pm Jan. 25, 2013

While Michael Bloomberg's performance during and after Hurricane Sandy was being summarily trashed by most of the participants in a candidate forum last night, top mayoral aide (and rapid-response veteran) Howard Wolfson took to Twitter to answer.

Wolfson actually understated the case, in one respect: In the Nov. 20 Quinnipiac poll he linked to, it was a combined 75 percent of respondents who rated Bloomberg's "overall response to Hurricane Sandy" as "excellent" or "good," to go along with the 23 who said it was "not so good" or "poor".

In another respect though, those numbers don't look quite so gaudy: Bloomberg's ratings lag behind what other leaders received in that same poll for their responses to the hurricane.

75: Mayor Michael Bloomberg

84: President Barack Obama

85: N.Y. Governor Andrew Cuomo

89: N.J. Governor Chris Christie
