‘Killing of Bin Laden’ author calls Bloomberg’s criticism of Obama ‘small-minded’
"That's kind of small-minded," said Bowden, who was in his car driving to Philadelphia to do a radio interview. "Clearly the man in charge gets credit when things go well just as they get blamed when things go badly. ... Any fair-minded person, it seems to me, would give Obama credit for having handled this well.
"It seems to me a lot of presidents might have been more inclined to take the less risky option of firing a missile or, in the case of Vice President Biden, waiting until they had more information to be certain the target was really bin Laden. President Obama made the decision to take the riskiest course" by sending in Navy SEALs and giving them orders to fight their way out if the Pakistani army attacked.
"This would suggest to me an unfair effort to diminish what was, in fact, I think, a major accomplishment for the United States," Bowden said. "He was commander in chief."
"The bottom line is if Obama can be blamed for gas prices going up, he certainly can be given credit for killing bin Laden," Bowden said.
