Before Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and found to have run a "sophisticated doping ring" with the U.S. Postal Service cycling team, he was an athlete politicians wanted to be around.
Especially Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
On January 18, 2008, Armstrong joined Bloomberg and the U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona for an announcement about cancer research.
On September 24, 2008, Armstrong joined Bloomberg and Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative.
In late October of 2009, right before Election Day, Bloomberg had a highly publicized appearance with Armstrong at the Green Market at Union Square.
On September 19, 2011, Bloomberg held a screening and reception with Armstrong for his film about cancer treatment in the developing world, "Delivering Hope," at Gracie Mansion.
