Quinn thinks anti-abortion protesters are threatening, but not the 'American Taliban'
Here's a situation that could have gone off-plan for City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
During a press conference this afternoon at which she announced a plan to increase the number of volunteers who'll serve as "escorts" for clients entering health care facilities, activist Merle Hoffman referred to aggressive anti-aborition protesters as "American Taliban."
Quinn, who was standing behind Hoffman when she made the remark, later went to the podium and said she personally disagreed with that characterization.
They were speaking at a press conference today announcing a plan to boost the number of volunteers who'll serve as escorts for patients entering health care facilities where there are protesters trying to block them.
Quinn said there's been a rise in "dangerous rhetoric" and behavior from anti-abortion protesters over the last few years, and that escorts are needed to guarantee safe access.
