Ed Koch will help Mark Murphy raise money
Former mayor Ed Koch will host a fund-raiser for Staten Island congressional candidate Mark Murphy next week.
Koch will be joined by Brooklyn Councilman Dominic Recchia and former congressman Michael McMahon, who held the seat until 2010, when he was beaten by Republican Michael Grimm.
Grimm has been besieged by bad press for most of the year, covering everything from his past business dealings to his fund-raising for the 2010 race, but still maintains a 10-point lead in the latest public polls.
Grimm has also proven an adept fund-raiser, having raised $1.6 million through the end of June, with $1.2 million of that still on hand at the time.
Murphy, a former actor and real estate developer whose father John Murphy held the seat in the 1970s, had raised just over $371,000 through June, with $261,000 on hand.
Koch, who occasionally backs Republicans, endorsed Murphy last month.
The event will take place on October 17 in Manhattan, and tickets start as low as $25 for young professionals, and go up to $2,500 to serve as a co-host.
