Embattled City Comptroller John Liu is having a "friends and family" fund-raiser this Saturday, according to an invitation passed along to me by a reader who received it.
The event is being held in Long Island City, and requested donations start at $100 and go up to $500.
Critics have called for Liu to resign amid a federal investigation that has already ensnared a fund-raiser and campaign aide. Some critics have said Liu's mayoral hopes are gone, and that he's simply keeping alive the notion of seeking higher office in order to raise funds and pay the legal bills associated with the probe into his fund-raising.
Others, like labor leader Stuart Appelbaum of the RWDSU, say that the fact that Liu has had his phone tapped since 2010, and still hasn't been charged, suggests he's innocent of the charges.
