Yesterday, Eric Ulrich's opponent in a Republican primary for State Senate in Queens, Juan Reyes, announced that he was endorsed by, among others, his former boss Bob Dole.
Ulrich tweaked Reyes with this tweet.
Ulrich was quoting an editorial in a local paper that endorsed him. But it's still a bit unusual for any Republican to highlight a dig at one of the party's elder statesmen, especially since Urlich is also the New York City chairman for the current Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.
"Eric Ulrich's rude and mocking comments about Senator Bob Dole prove that 27-year old Ulrich is unfit for public office," Reyes said in a statement.
This incident happens to come days after Ulrich reportedly got snubbed by MSNBC host Chris Matthews at a party in Tampa, which later led other Republican delegates to get a little rowdy.
Reyes has the backing of the Queens County Republican organization, but he is nevertheless in an uphill battle against Ulrich, who got a rare primary endorsement from State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who has also pumped a bunch of money into Ulrich's coffers.
The winner of the Ulrich-Reyes primary will run against State Senator Joseph Addabbo, a moderate Democrat who dropped his opposition to same-sex marriage last year and is being hit with some harsh mailers from a little-known PAC.
Looks like Reyes ("Jerry") has more Ammo to use in mailers, flyers, etc, in this hotly contested race.
Just how many Queens GOPers remember who Bob Dole was/is and does his endorsement have value compared to say "Skelos" and the pile of money he is dumping into this primary will be answered next Thursday.
One thing is for sure the insane war does not end it only gets more insane.
