If City Council Speaker Christine Quinn goes to the U.S. Open, it'll be on her own dime.
That's according to her spokesman, who said Quinn will this year decline to accept free tickets organizers usually give to elected officials, and which were offered to her for this year's Open.
"In light of the fact that the USTA, for the first time since she became Speaker, will have a pending land use application and because the USTA will have business before the Council, Speaker Quinn will not accept complimentary tickets to the US Open," her spokesman, Jamie McShane said, when I emailed to ask about the matter.
The Post reported earlier that the State Senator Tony Avella wanted to get an ethics ruling about whether elected were allowed to accept the tickets, since their value exceeds a limit placed on freebies for lawmakers.
