The Williamsburg set's summer migration to Rockaway shows no signs of abating.
In June, Sam Morrill and his friend Ryan Hefner launched Rockabus, which uses decommissioned yellow school buses to ferry hip young things from Williamsburg to their favorite new summer enclave, the Rockaways.
"We had a lot of anecdotal evidence that suggested that a lot of the people going out to Rockaway from the city during the weekends were coming from Williamsburg, and other neighborhoods off of the L-train,” said the 25-year-old Morrill late last month.
That anecdotal evidence is not one-sided.
“Me and a couple of my friends will walk down on the sidewalk and the boardwalk and we can just pick out the guys and the girls who are not locals,” Vince Castellano, a long-time Rockaway resident and the owner of the neighborhood car service, Deuces, told me in June.
It looks like Castellano will have yet more hipster-spotting opportunities in the future.
Yesterday, Morrill announced that Rockabus is expanding its service.
Now, buses will run hourly from Williamsburg, where they previously ran every two hours.
And, Rockabus will now be running school buses to Fort Tilden too.
