Senator Marco Rubio, the Florida Senator who the Romney campaign now says is being vigrously vetted as a possibly vice-presidential pick, was supposed to appear on "The Daily Show" last night. But according to host Jon Stewart, "Harry Reid scheduled a lot of floor votes for this evening," so Rubio was stuck in Washington.
They got Dennis Leary as a replacement, and Stewart said Rubio would be on the show next week.

A bunch of the votes taken by the Senate yesterday were on agriculture and farm-related bills. One, introduced by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, would have increased funding for a fresh fruit and vegetable program. It was defeated.
Another bill, from Senator Jim Demint, the South Carolina Republican and Tea Party favorite, sought to extend reduce broadband communication services in rural areas. That, too, was defeated, with Democrats, including Schumer and Gillibrand, voting against it.
