Rep. Charlie Rangel—who 10 days ago addressed his Latino ancestry—will receive "a Lifetime Achievement Award of Individuals of Puerto Rican Descent" this weekend, his legislative office announced.

The award will be presented at the Global Spanish Latino Awards this Saturday.

Rangel will be joined by "Dominican leaders and residents in Washington Heights" during a caravan throughout Upper Manhattan. He'll also open his Washington Heights office ahead of the Democratic primary, which will be held 24 days later.

The award comes as Rangel faces a strong primary challenge from State Senator Adriano Espaillat, who is of Dominican descent, in a newly redrawn district that is now majority Latino.

UPDATE: Here's a flyer for the event.

The "Establishment" is pulling out all the stops to help re-elect Rangel who seems more and more like Humpty Dumpty.

Why he did not just retire ?

What is so special about going back to Washington and being in the Minority ?

Life is more than politics
