After I and other reporters were tipped off by a Republian source to news that Republican U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long's adviser, Dick Wadhams, was being sidelined, Long's campaign spokesman David Catalfamo denied there was any major shakeup.

"I'm not sure there's any big change from the point of view of how this thing is operating on a day-to-day basis," he said.

Afterward, the Observer and City & State reported on the "shakeup" and said Wadham had been "replaced" by another operative working on the campaign, Rob Ryan.

When I asked Catalfamo how his denial of "any big change" squared with Ryan replacing Wadham, he said, "From my point of view, there isn’t a big change. Rob has been involved with the campaign for a while. We work as a team."

Long and her two primary opponents are largely unknown statewide. The nominee will face Kirsten Gillibrand.

No major shake up, just a simple case of - if you can't pay, he won't stay!
