Today, Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared at Internet Week New York to unveil a new interactive map charting New York City's digital companies and enabling tech workers seeking work to click through the map to job listings.

Rachel Sterne, the city's chief digital officer, said the map demonstrated that "this growth is not confined to one area."

"I just think the most important thing for us to focus on is the city as a whole and the fact that we're beyond just an 'alley' right now," said Sterne, referring to the traditional "Silicon Alley" name for New York's tech scene, which she defined as pertaining to lower Broadway. "We are bigger and better than ever, and I think it's helpful for having a way to refer to that, and I support however people want to phrase it, however people want to celebrate the industry. But I think at the same time it's just important that we recognize that growth is happening in amazing ways across the five boroughs, that this is truly impacting all New Yorkers."
