The head of the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City, Melissa Sklarz, said she expects President Obama to endorse same-sex marriage after the general election.
"President Obama will be the last Democrat to be president not to support marriage equality," Sklarz told me. "I look forward to the president coming out on marriage next year and the Supreme Court deciding this issue during his second term."
(That's assuming Obama doesn't come out sooner.)
Yesterday, Obama's "evolving" position on the issue overshadowed his efforts to talk about the economy, according to Josh Robin. And after White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Joe Biden's endorsement of same-sex marriage is consistent with the president's "evolving" views on the matter, Jon Stewart offered this translation: "So, with regards to gay marriage, the vice president's position is consistent with the president's position which has not changed and is also changing. That's not a social policy. That's a Zen koan."
