Former Bronx borough president and mayoral candidate Fernando Ferrer is endorsing Adriano Espailalt for Congress against 21-term congressman Charles Rangel today, Espaillat's campaign announced.
When asked for a comment, Rangel's campaign manager, Moises Perez, told me, "It's an important endorsement for them. Luckily, Charlie Rangel is going to be endorsed by the current Bronx Borough President."
That would be Ruben Diaz Jr. I emailed his spokesman and will update with a response.
Diaz appeared at a rally in Harlem back in March and said the district currently represented by Rangel and previously represented by Adam Clayton Powell Jr. "should continue in the future to be represented by a black individual."
UPDATE: A spokesman for Diaz Jr. said "it's accurate." Perez, Rangel's spokesman, told me the endorsement will take place sometime this week.
