"You're not going to get a lot of drama from me," Councilman Dan Garodnick declared in this video, announcing his bid to run for New York City Comptroller, an office currently held by John Liu, who has had plenty of drama surrounding his fund-raising lately.

Garodnick, who had previously signaled his interest in the race to the Times, is having a press event at noon to formally announce his candidacy.

Liu is in his first term as comptroller and was widely expected to run for mayor in 2013, but the recent arrest of his campaign treasurer and a top fund-raiser have led to speculation that he might run for re-election instead. Today's announcement by Garodnick signals that Liu won't have a free pass even if he forgoes a run for mayor.

Garodnick has over $900,000 in his campaign account. Another likely candidate, Councilman Domenic Recchia, has just over $415,000.
