Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the gun-control group co-chaired by Mayor Bloomberg, is looking for out-of-work lawyers to research doctrine related to the Trayvon Martin case.
Laurin Grollman, the mayor's senior counsel for firearms policy, sent out the following email, forwarded by a reader:
From: Grollman, Laurin
Looking for lawyers who are out of work who might want to do paid work for mayors against illegal guns (www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org) for the next few days/week or so, starting ASAP (today if possible, and working over the weekend if possible). $20/hour. Work is doing a 50-state survey of castle doctrine expansion laws, in light of Trayvon Martin shooting. Interesting and timely stuff, but somewhat complicated.

Is it legal for the Office of the Mayor of New York City to be spending taxdollars investigating the laws of other states in response to an incident in another state?

Dear Mayor Bloomberg:
Your trampling of The 2nd Amendment is a slap in the face to the millions who have fought and died to create and protect this country!
You care nothing for the safety of We The People, and are only interested in gaining more power and oppressing us. We are on to you, and you do no fool us.
Did you swear an Oath to defend the consstitution of the US?
If so, then you are a traitor to your Oath.
If not, then you do not deserve to be the leader of the greatest city of the greatest country on earth.
There are plenty of other countries you can go live in that do NOT respect their subjects' God Given Rights to firearms. I suggest you take your billions and buy a home in one or all of them; no difference to me, just get the hell out of The United States of America because you are no friend of this great nation.
Fools, "Castle Doc/Stand your ground" had nothing to do with The Martin/Zimmaerman case. NAACP president said so, the legislator who authored it said so, ex-gov of Florida said so and Zimmerman's attorney said so. Anti-Gun nuts believe that somehow a woman laying naked and dead in a back allay is somehow morally superior to a woman who is explaining to police how her murderous attacker got the fatal gunshot wound in his chest. Liberals will be the death of this nation.
If this research is for MAIG then why is the request coming out of the mayors office, rather than from the inaptly named group he heads, ostensibly in his spare time?
I found this info at: http://www.wallsofthecity.net/2012/01/tn-hcp-holders-are-more-law-abidin...
By current accounting, the misnamed Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) claims or claimed as members at least 15 mayors who have been convicted of breaking various and sundry laws.
As of this post, MAIG claims 606 mayors have signed onto their campaign, however, it is known that the Mayors Against Illegal Guns frequently lies about its membership numbers by including mayors who have explicitly asked MAIG to remove their names from the rolls. As such, we will round down a smidge and call their membership and even 600. Based on those numbers, we may conclude that, since its inception in 2006, the Mayors Against Illegal Guns has suffered a total "failure rate" of 2.5%.
On the other hand, Tennessee currently has 340,066 active Handgun Carry Permits. "Court Ordered / Administrative Revocations" and felony convictions resulted in 108 revocations in 2010, 292 in 2009, 263 in 2008, 262 in 2007, and 200 in 2006. Averaging those numbers gives us 225 revocations per year, which is the number we will arbitrarily use for 2011.
Based on those numbers and that assumption, we may conclude that, since 2006, Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit holders have suffered a total "failure rate" of 0.40%.
In other words, based on similar time periods, Mayors Against Illegal Guns members are 6.3 times more likely to break the law than Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit holders.
Based on these numbers alone, it would appear as though the Mayors Against Illegal Guns members’ time could be much better spent on keeping each other on the ‘straight and narrow’, rather than senselessly seeking to abridge and infringe upon my Constitutionally-protected rights… but that is assuming MAIG’s end goal is actually the reduction of crime, rather than the reduction of firearm ownership.
