City Council Speaker Christine Quinn made her debut on the "Rachel Maddow Show" yesterday, arguing for the Pentagon to drop its opposition to cities holding parades for Iraq War veterans.
"What I want is to make sure this moment doesn't pass us by because if we wait too long it will pass us by and then the 'thank you' will seem late and belated like the birthday card from your aunt who forgot," Quinn said. "It just doesn't mean as much."
Quinn said there should be more than one parade, since American forces have been involved in more than one conflict.
"Let's do an immediate one as it relates to Iraq and God willing, very very soon, let's do one for Afghanistan," Quinn said.
The show was timed to coincide with the Super Bowl-victory parade held for the New York Giants.
The Times wrote yesterday about the fact that the Giants were getting a parade while war veterans weren't. In the article, Quinn called for a "citywide celebration."
