Political club endorses a Fidler replacement for Council, ahead of an actual vacancy
A reader passed along this Jan. 16 letter from members the influential Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club, saying they're prepared to back longtime district leader Frank Seddio for City Council, should the current occupant, Lew Fidler, get elected to the State Senate.
Seddio has said he'll run for the seat if it's vacated, and this letter seems to indicate that he'll have the bulk of the institutional support in the area.
The early timing is kind of interesting: It's like calling for a double-steal without knowing whether the guy on second is actually going to break for third. It becomes a problem if one runner catches up to the other.
If Fidler wins his race for State Senate and vacates the Council seat, it will trigger a special election. It's unclear who beside Seddio will run, if that happens.
UPDATE: Mercedes Narcisse and Ivron Hines are also looking to run for Fidler's seat, reports Colin Campbell.
