David Dinkins still backs Bill Thompson for mayor

Former mayor Ed Koch has a mayoral candidate for 2013, and so, for the record, does former mayor David Dinkins.
"I support Billy Thompson," Dinkins told me this afternoon.
When I asked him about Koch's endorsement yesterday of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Dinkins said, "Of course it's a challenge. Chris Quinn is a formidable candidate, and so is Billy. Ed Koch supports Chris, I support Billy. End of story. OK?"
Dinkins, New York City's first African-American mayor, backed then-city comptroller Thompson when he ran for mayor in 2009. Koch went with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who narrowly won.
Dinkins, the city's last Democratic mayor, served only one term before losing to Rudy Giuliani in 1993 2003.
