Astoria, the vast neighborhood of northwestern Queens, is full of sub-neighborhoods and ethnic pockets including Serbians, Croatians and Bosnians; Egyptians (there is a little Egypt here!); South Americans from lots of countries but especially Colombia (lots of empanadas!); and a surprising number of young Japanese. And of course, throughout, hipsters have made their mark. But the old immigrant wave of Italians and Greeks who made the neighborhood a famous food destination come to the fore prominently on holidays, perhaps most markedly at Easter.
