Mark Lotto has left GQ, where he's been a senior editor for the past two-and-a-half years, and started work today at the online publishing platform Medium.

It's a big move for Lotto, a print veteran who also has worked as an op-ed page staff editor at The New York Times before joining GQ in 2011. Now he will be working alongside new media mainstays like Twitter co-founder and Medium founder Evan Williams, and director of content Kate Lee.

"This is a really exciting move, one that I'm really happy about," Lotto told Capital in a chat message.

On Monday, Lotto tweeted his excitement about the move:

Medium, which is still in "closed beta," according to the site, allows all users to read posts but limits the ability to write posts to a group with "special" access. When they will move out of beta is not certain.

UPDATE: Lotto's title at Medium is senior editor, a spokesperson for the site confirmed.

"We are thrilled to welcome an editor of Mark's caliber to Medium," said Lee in a statement provided by the spokesperson. "He will be integral to the content team as we continue to develop great writers and stories"
