The 'Post' publishes its first e-book: Sex tips from Spitzer-scandal alumna Ashley Dupré
The New York Post announced today that the newspaper's first e-book is now up for sale. And it's a book of sex tips from a famous former prostitute.
Tricks of the Trade is a collection of the relationship-advice columns written for the tabloid by Ashley Dupré. Yes, that's the woman whose "Client No. 9" was revealed in 2008 to be Eliot Spitzer, ending his governorship in scandal and, so far at least, his career in politics.
"Never shy, Dupré offers her sexpert opinion on everything from threesomes to rubber fetishes to rekindling an old romance," a news release about the book crows. "She gives plenty of hands-on sex tips, always stresses the importance of open communications, and charms readers with her winning advice."
The Post isn't widely acknowledged to be a digital-forward title, but it has had some success in the digital space. The iPad edition of the daily newspaper, for instance, is a popular offering in Apple's App Store.
As a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., the Post also benefits from its association with HarperCollins, the News Corp. publishing company that will have all the necessary resources and experience for marketing the title. And the paper's new publisher, Jesse Angelo, headed up the recently-shuttered Murdoch tablet-newspaper The Daily; say what you will about that experiment, but certainly the Post has never before had a publisher with this kind of digital experience.
“Many of our readers have already embraced the Post's digital products, and we believe this new venture into eBooks will prove very popular,” Angelo is quoted in a statement as saying. "Tricks of the Trade is a unique and fun book – the perfect way for The Post to enter the market. We expect it will be the first of many Post eBooks to come ..."
