'Times' publisher celebrates his 60th birthday at the Copacabana
New York Times muckety-mucks (and probably lots of other kinds of muckety-mucks) will soon be streaming in to legendary Midtown nightclub Copacabana for Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger's big 60th birthday bash.
Our sources are calling it an intimate fete for the friends and family of Sulzberger and his significant other, Claudia Gonzalez, of Mexican glossy-mag fame (about whom we found out on Monday, remember?)
We do know that former Times editor Bill Keller's wife, Emma, is among those on the guest list.
"Tonight I am going out in the rain to Arthur Sulzberger's 60th birthday party," she wrote, before back-pedalling: "Oh shit, hope it wasn't meant to be a surprise," and then covering her tracks just in case: "Um, tonight I'm...staying in."
So are we.
Asked about the fete, a Times spokesman simply said: "No comment."
It's unclear exactly how long Sulzberger and Gonzalez have been entwined, but they were photographed together as early as last fall touring a university in Israel with other Times bigwigs. More recently, they were spotted in January at this year's World Ecomic Forum confab in Davos, Switzerland, and at a Nelson Mandela luncheon in New York in July.
A gossip item in Quien, which is published by Time Inc.'s Mexico City division, is so far the most detailed account of their jetsetting romance. Capital obtained a copy of the two-page spread that appeared in the magazine's print edition last month, which you can view below while putting those high school Spanish skills to good use:
