In Greenpoint, an all-day film fest will honor late French filmmaker Chris Marker

Light Industry, the film and electronic art venue in Greenpoint, announced today that they will host a free all-day screening of the films of French filmmaker Chris Marker, on Aug. 26.
The cinema legend died on July 30 at the age of 91.
Light Industry, known for its weekly events series, has invited a number of artists, professors and critics to deliver introductory remarks and remembrances. Presenters will include the artist and activist Paul Chan, the film critic Amy Taubin, and Molly Nesbit, the Chair of Vassar College's Art Department, among others.
Marker’s death provoked an outpouring of tributes and reminiscences from a variety of cultural figures last week, some of them here at Capital.
Karen Cooper, the founder of Film Forum, called Marker’s 1983 art-house classic Sans Soleil “but one example of his brilliance, originality, humor, and humanity,” adding: “A great light has gone out.”
Doors for the event open at 9 a.m., and seating is offered on a first-come first-served basis.
Marker’s 1997 CD-ROM project, Immemory, as well as posters and books related to his work, will be on display in the space before and after the screening.
