Mark-Viverito announces transition team
Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito announced a 33-member transition team this morning.
The group will be co-chaired by Dr. Una Clarke, a former councilwoman from Brooklyn and a longtime supporter of Mayor Bill de Blasio, and Rossana Rosado, the former editor of El Diaro.
The group also includes influential players from the city's unions. Among them, Kevin Finnegan, political director at 1199 SEIU, the powerful health care union where Mark-Viverito previously worked. The union played an instrumental role in pushing Mark-Viverito's bid for speaker and they were also early influential backers of de Blasio during the primary.
Natalia Salgado, the deputy political director at 32BJ SEIU, is also part of the transition team, along with representatives from both the public and private sectors, and community advocacy groups.
In a statement, Mark-Viverito said the committee’s goal would be simple: “To help build a professional and experienced team that will reflect New York City and its values. It is an honor to have such a broad and diverse group of New Yorkers come together and I am looking forward to working with them in the weeks ahead.”
