Dennis Gabryszak resigns
A Buffalo-area assemblyman facing numerous allegations of sexual harassment will retire from office, he said at a press conference on Sunday.
Dennis Gabryszak, a Democrat, is accused of creating a hostile work environment through lewd comments, suggesting that younger female aides share a hotel room with him and, in one instance, dress as a sexy elf.
Many Democrats had pressured Gabryszak—who until Sunday had not commented substantively on the storm of allegations—to either deny their veracity or resign. His resignation was confirmed in a statement by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a Manhattan Democrat.
The legislative session begins in earnest on Monday. It is unclear if Gov. Andrew Cuomo will call a special election for his seat and nine other vacant districts around the state.
